During my recent trip around the Mediterranean Sea with Princess Cruises, I asked you guys on Instagram if you had ever been a cruise before. A staggering 98% of you said that you hadn’t been on one YET, so I guess I have some convincing to do ;-)

Traveling around the world by cruise ship was a childhood dream I never thought I would get the opportunity to experience. I had absolutely no idea what life on board was really like, but I had a feeling deep down, that it was going to be AMAZING. Well ladies & gentlemen, I can confirm that it was everything I ever hoped for and more – here’s why!

  1. It’s Full-board!

Point number 1 definitely speaks for itself! This is the stuff dreams are made of. All you can eat, all day long! You have got full access to the buffet, cafes and a main dining rooms on board throughout the day.

  2. Wake up in a new country

For me, this is definitely one of the highlights of traveling by cruise ship. It’s a pretty strange feeling to go to bed saying “Goodbye France, see you in the morning Italy!”. How often do you get to wake up in an entirely new destination? While all you have to do is enjoy a peaceful sleep in order to get there!
This perfectly leads me on to my next point…

  3. You don’t have to step foot in an airport

When I was a kid, there was nothing more exciting than the day your holidays arrived and you knew it was time to go to the airport! Fast forward 20 years and it’s all starting to make sense why my parents never seemed as excited as I was in the departure hall. The queues, the security, the 30 minute walk to get to your boarding gate, the dreaded moment the airline tells you your bag is too heavy… sounds familiar right?

What if I told you, you didn’t have to do any of this? In fact, all you have to do is scan your cruise ID card. step out of the ship and viola! You have arrived in your destination.

  4. Food glorious food

The Full-Board package is all well and good, but my favourite dining experiences on board the Princess Cruise were definitely the speciality restaurants. No matter what you’re in the mood for, they’ve got it – from 24 hour cafes and Grills to Sabatini’s Italian Restaurant, Crown Grill Steak House and The Salty Dog Gastropub.

I was very conscious of the fact that some of these dining options were not included in the package, but then I found out that the 4 course menu, with one of the best steaks I have ever eaten in my life, was only €29. I mean, it doesn’t get much better than that!

  5.  See as many places as possible in a short period of time

What happens when your bucket list is getting longer but your holiday days are getting shorter? We all know how hard it is to get time off work, and trying to arrange a holiday by yourself in whatever time you have left over can be a bit of a nightmare. Booking a cruise will not only take the hassle out of organising a trip, but it also gives you the opportunity to discover many different destinations in a short period of time. We were lucky enough to explore Barcelona, Gibraltar, Provence, Cinque Terre and Pisa in just 7 days!

  6. You deserve to live that luxury lifestyle, even just for a week or 2 ;)

If you have been following my travels over the past few years you will know that I am a backpacker at heart with a big love for luxury every now and again (if you don’t spoil yourself every so often, who will?).

My experience with Princess Cruises was the kind of luxury we all desire and deserve. With bags delivered to your room, little chocolate treats before bed, rooms cleaned twice daily (I assured my State Room Steward that this wasn’t necessary, but he insisted on making sure my room was feeling fresh and clean for the day time, and that my bed was up to their sleeping standards when I returned from dinner!).

  7. It’s not as expensive as you might think

Prices will change depending on the length, cruise stops and additional add ons, but when you do the math, sailing away with Princess Cruises actually isn’t as expensive as you might think. Let me break it down for you.

Our cruise was 7 days/6 nights long, which means that the following was included in the overall price:

    – 6 breakfasts, 6 lunches, 6 dinners + all of those delicious snacks in between and 24 hour room service
    – 6 nights accommodation
    – 5 stops along the Mediterranian (Barcelona, Gibraltar, Provence, Cinque Terre and Pisa)
    – 7 days of activities including Zumba classes, Dancing, Karaoke, Casino, Bingo, Gaming lessons and access to the fitness centre.
    – 6 nights of entertainment including deck parties, live theatre performances, balloon drop, champagne fountain, live bands, dancers, singers, DJ’s and more.

Total price: Currently €970 for an interior bedroom, €1130 for a room with an ocean view or balcony.
Those prices are unheard of for this kind of luxury in Europe!

  8. Endless things to do

I will be honest with you guys, I was a little concerned about the 2 entire days we had lined up on the ship. I thought to myself, “surely we’ll run out of things to do on board”. I will hold my hand up and say, I was wrong. So very very wrong. So wrong in fact, that I really wish I could have had an extra day to simply enjoy the many wonders of cruise life.

From swimming pools and massages to movies under the stars and dance classes, there are so many things to explore on board with Princess Cruises. After spending the morning at The Sanctuary (a tranquil paradise for adults to enjoy some peace and quiet, healthy meal options, massages and more), I headed down to the spa for a full body exfoliation – even thinking about it now is bringing me back to my happy place.

Then as the evening rolled around, we had to make the hardest decision of all… Get wrapped up in a blanket on the top deck, watching newly released movies underneath the stars, or get dolled up for a night of Theatre, with a brand new original musical created exclusively by Stephen Schwartz, the Grammy & Academy award-winning composer of WickedGodspell, and Pippin.

We went with both of course!

  9. Step away from wifi, work and all of your troubles – let someone else take care of you

You’ll find wifi on board, but I wouldn’t recommend you to connect. As you float away from the mainland, press pause on life as you know it. There is no better place to unplug, disconnect and let your cares float away.

The great news is that you won’t be able to connect to 4G while you are out at sea, so use this sacred time wisely. Put your feet up, order a cocktail or a cold beer and get ready to enjoy life, distraction free!

  10. There is a cruise for everyone, here’s how to find the right one

I get a lot of questions from people, starting with the phrase “I’m not sure if a cruise is really for me…”. In all honesty, a part of me was thinking the same thing before this trip, so I understand why this thought might pop into your head. But before you make up your mind, take a look at this page. Do a little digging, play around with the different destinations and trip lengths, I guarantee you will find something that is right up your alley!

I’m happy to say that I have knocked the majority of Europe off my bucket list now, so i’ve got my eye on the Japan, Caribbean and Alaska cruises next!

  11. Meet new people

If you are hoping to meet new people on your travels, a cruise might not be the first place you think of – but it should be! I was shocked to see that they hosted events practically every day of the week for solo cruisers and people who just wanted to make new friends. Don’t knock it till you try it!

  12. It’s time to try something new

If you have already done the city break and the beach bum holidays, then it’s time to try something new. Trust me when I say, you have never done something like this before. After spending the past year traveling all around the world, I can confirm that this style of travel is completely unique. It might not be for everyone, but you’ll never know until you give it a try!
